As a new promising paradigm, cloud computing can make good use of economics of scale and elastically deliver almost any IT
related services on demand. Nevertheless, one of the key problems remaining in cloud computing is related to virtual machine
images, which require a great amount of space/time to reposit/provision, especially with diverse requests from thousands of
users simultaneously. In this paper, by using the splitting and eliminating redundant data techniques, a space and time efficient
approach for virtual machines is proposed. The experiments demonstrate that, compared with existing solutions, our approach

As a parallel programming model, Map-Reduce is used for distributed computing of massive data. Map-Reduce model encapsulates
the details of parallel implementation, fault-tolerant processing, local computing and load balancing, etc., provides a simple but powerful interface. In case of having no clear idea about distributed and parallel programming, this
interface can be utilized to save development time. This paper introduces the method of using Hadoop, the open-source Map-Reduce
software platform, to combine PCs to carry out scalable parallel computing. Our experiment using 12 PCs to compute N-body problem based on Map-Reduce model shows that we can get a 9.8x speedup ratio. This work indicates that the Map-Reduce can be applied in scalable parallel computing. 相似文献

AbstractThis study addressed the role of the reflection-informed learning and instruction (RILI) model on students’ academic success by using CourseMIRROR mobile system. We hypothesized that prompting students to reflect on confusing concepts stimulates their self-monitoring activities according to which students are expected to review their understanding, search for related knowledge, and try to identify the confusing concepts. With this student-reflection information, instructors can thus address students’ difficulties effectively, which can lead to enhanced academic success. We tested our hypothesis by conducting a semester-long quasi-experimental study in undergraduate industrial engineering classes (N?=?153). The analyses revealed that students in the RILI condition performed significantly better than students in the control condition (Cohen’s d = .82). In addition, reflection analysis showed that both quality and quantity of reflections were significantly associated with exam performance. Surveys indicated users highly valued the RIFI model; they rated CourseMIRROR favorably and said they would continue to use it in future classes. 相似文献

Synthesis of Materials is regarded as an important core subject in engineering education. However, many concepts and knowledge in the material synthesis can be rather abstract and difficult to understand by the student learners. Experiments are limited in scope due to lack of equipment, control of toxic materials, and risks of chemical reactions, which often restricts student imagination and student involvement in practical training. These reasons often led to poor learning attitude and learning performance among the students. Rapid developments in Cloud technology and mobile devices have provided new opportunities for developing novel learning tools for material synthesis. This study aims to introduce interest factors as a strategy for promoting learning interest and practical skills among the students. Chemical symbols, experimental themes, texts, and interactive elements were utilized to develop a theme-based Mobile Learning APP for teaching the practical techniques of material synthesis. The Mobile Learning APP was then integrated into a problem-based learning activity. A quasi-experimental design was used to investigate the resulting learning effectiveness from using the developed Mobile Learning APP. Results show that the Mobile Learning APP provided a significant positive effect on learning performance and that most students showed favorable attitudes toward the usage of the mobile learning system. 相似文献
